About Our Visionary Dr. P. Vadamalayan
At the foundation of Vadamalayan Hospitals stands Dr. P. Vadamalayan a pioneering Surgeon, visionary leader, and selfless humanitarian whose life and work continue to guide our mission.
Beginning his medical journey in the early 1930s, Dr. P. Vadamalayan was far ahead of his time, practicing what we now call evidence-based medicine delivering ethical, timely, and effective care to the underserved across South Tamil Nadu. His reputation for integrity and excellence made him a revered figure not only in the medical community but also in education and social service.
Pioneering Contributions to Healthcare
- Founded Vadamalayan Clinic in 1947 near South Gate, therkuvasal, Madurai
- In 1957, Vadamalayan Hospital was inaugurated at Chokkikulam by CM Kamaraj.
- Served as Honorary Surgeon at Madurai Rajaji Government Hospital (formerly Erskine Hospital)
- Continued as Visiting Surgeon until his final days.
- Photograph still displayed at the hospital’s main operation theatre as a tribute to his legacy
- Dr.P.Vadamalayan was awarded Rao Bahadur by then British Government
